    Recap Day 1

Team Smooth Take a Commanding 5-1 Lead after First Round

Wang and Fung straight dominated EZ and Nick all round.  After losing the first 3 holes, Team EZ/Nick were toast.  Disappointing first EG match for Nick.  Not only did Wang and Fung have good chemistry, they have theme music.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rox15lCFfi4 “Everybody have fun tonight, everybody Wang Fung tonight”

    Wang/Fung 6&4

Robby and Erik versus Derrek and Tac ended up being the most competitive matches of the first round.  After holding an advantage with approach shots on 18, Tac flew the green and had to take a lost ball penalty.  After searching around for what seemed like 30 minutes, the penalty was the difference in the match with Robby and Erik taking the full point.  Huge win that made it 5-1 instead of 4-2.

    Robby/Erik  1up

Alika and Rob just got destroyed by Jason and Dean.  Lynbrook class of ’92 straight representing!  Considering the final outcome, hard to believe it was ever a battle, but experience was gained and lessons learned, I guess :{.

    Jason/Dean 7&6

Pham and Ryth finally gets Team Cool on the god damn scoreboard.  Little did they know, that was going to be it in the first round.  Not quite sure, but maybe a special brownie had something to do with the outcome.  Needless to say, this started off a very productive weekend for Pham.

    Pham/Ryth  7&6

Ryan and Victor (AKA Buzzsaw) was just too much for the team of Pat and Wimpy.  The Buzzsaw’s putting seemed to be the difference in yet another match that didn’t see the last holes go to Team Smooth.

    Ryan and Victor 4&2

In his last match known as Johnny Chan, Johnny and Byron just mopped up the team of Randy and Mike.  Johnny’s distance and Byron’s all around good play proved too much for Randy and Mike to handle.  Match was over quick style.

    Byron and Johnny 7&5

    Recap of Day 1 (continued)

Deficit cut to 7-5 after strong second round by Team Cool

Pat and Ryth put it together and put it on the team of Jason and Fung.  This was a battle and a huge win for Team Cool.  Jason proves to be human, or maybe he could no longer carry Fung in the alternate shot.  Either way, huge showing for Pat and Ryth with a much needed point for Team Cool.

    Pat/Ryth 1up

With EZ and Alika both coming off of losses in the first round, going against a dream team of Wang and Robby was not looking so good.  It actually turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.  After playing the scramble portion all square, EZ and Alika took the first 5 holes of alternate shot.  Chalk another one up for Team Cool!

    EZ/Alika 5&4

In what was a battle to the very end, Johnny entered the round with the last name Chan, and exited the round with the nickname Sands.  To recap, Mike and Rob were waiting to hit their 7th shot from just off the green, and Johnny and Erik were about the hit 4 from the sand.  After playing tennis from bunker to bunker to tall grass to penalty stroke to bunker, they switched it up and stayed in the bunker to concede the hole.  Throw in a “Johnny frustration backwards fall like he got sniped in the stomach” into the sand, and Johnny Sands was born!  He even has theme music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2jfV1DzcuQ

    Sands/Erik 2&1

In what proved to be Randy and Wimpy’s only points of the weekend, they really showed up and beat the team of Dean and Byron.  Some considered this an upset, Randy and Wimpy considered it business as usual.

    Randy/Wimpy 3&2

One of the marquee pairings for Team Cool, Pham and Nick showed why the crew is called Elevated Greens and put up a dominating performance to close out Ryan and Yin early.  Pham is clearly showing he is a force to be reckoned with, while Nick earns his first point of the weekend.

    Pham/Nick 7&6

Another 18 hole battle for Derrek and Tac, that included one of the most improbably flop shots out of a creek off of rocks (Derrek) anyone has ever witnessed, concluded with another   improbably bunker shot (Tae) that sealed the last point of Saturday for Team Smooth.

    Victor/Tae 1up

    Recap Day 2 (Singles)

Team Smooth Dominates Singles and wins 15-9

    Match #1 Alika vs Jason

Jason proves once again, he has no equal in the crew.  Although Alika battled him to the end, Jason just made more putts and he overall play was just slightly better.  Great match filled with quality shots.

    Jason 1up

    Match #2 Derrek vs. Wang

While the score was surprising, the result wasn’t.  Derrek showed on Saturday his has “skills to burn”  and proved it on Sunday.  While Wang is still one of EG’s top players, Derrek said “Na Foo”.

    Derrek 5&4

    Match #3 Pat vs. Robby

In a tale of 2 nines, Robby shot a 1 under in the front, but a back nine 60 while losing 7 consecutive holes to the eventual winner, Pat.  Give Pat credit for hanging in the match in the front nine, but this sounds like Robby gave Pat a gift all wrapped up with a bow on top.

    Pat 2&1

    Match #4 EZ vs. Fung

Although Fung took an early 1up lead over EZ, this match really wasn’t one and had Fung considering retirement.  Fung did hole out from off the green on 18 to minimize some damages.  Overall, a under inspired Fung led to a mismatch from the start.

    EZ 4&3

    Match #5 Nick vs. Victor

Nick started his day like he started on Saturday, not good.  Victor took control early and never let up.  The Buzzsaw went to work on Sunday and his stock if off the charts.  Going 3-0  and possessing a solid short game, the Buzzsaw is a player to beat going into the next event.

    Buzzsaw 7&6

    Recap of Day 2 (continued)

Match #6 Ryth vs. Randy Chang

Not knowing how Randy’s game was, and knowing Ryth was the dominator Saturday, this result might have been to most surprising.  Randy must have beat Ryth both physically and mentally for a quality stick to let it go this bad.  Randy proved he has game.

    Randy Chang 5&4

    Match #7 Matt vs. Tae

In one of the more anticipated matches, Phamage improved his record to 3-0.  It proved to be a battle and an even matchup.  Pham’s star is on the rise, how high can he go?

    Matt 2&1

    Match #8 Randy vs. Ryan

Hole #12 and a 6 putt holds heavy significance in this matchup.  Again, another even battle that Team Smooth found a way to win.  This has the smell of rematch.

    Ryan 1up

    Match #9 Tac vs. Byron

After a grueling 36 holes on Saturday, Tac might not have had enough in the tank to truly give Byron much of a fight.  Byron had a slightly lower handicap, and proved it on Sunday with a convincing win over Tac.

    Byron 5&4

    Match #10 Mike vs. Johnny

This was truly one of the most enjoyable matches of the entire weekend.  The match went back and forth and was tight all the way to the end.  In a match that featured a phantom fist pump, Johnny closes out 18 with par, and preserves his perfect record.

    Sands 1up

    Match #11 Wimpy vs. Dean

Based on handicap, this really shouldn’t have been a match, and it wasn’t.  Although Wimpy has a victory over Dean in the past, Dean proved to be the better player and put the smack down on Wimpy.

    Dean 3&2

    Match #12 Rob vs. Erik

In another matchup that was doomed from the start, Rob gave it his best effort, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Erik took control early and never let go.  Rob has the attitude to really improve and perhaps return the favor sooner than later.

    Because I haven't updated in a while

Haven't done this in a while so I thought I would give a brief update.  So I ran into the ex in the elevator and on the theory that she wanted to keep everything cordial and professional.  So I do the professional thing and say Hi to her to which she gets all choked up and looks away with that bitter, hurt look that she gets when something doesn't go her way and since she wears her emotions on her face like Hester Pryne wears her A then turns to face the corner, I take it that we aren't going to be all good like she said when we broke up but such is life I guess.  That is now her problem not mine I guess.

So I went out with some friends and saw Eagle Eye.  The movie itself was pretty good, though it got horrible reviews it was very entertaining.  It was really unrealistic but it really makes you wonder if some of the things that happened in the movie are half way accurate it is really trippy the things that they can do to track you.  If you buy into the "Big Brother is Watching" theory then it is a trip.  I don't want to ruin the movie but one of the things they did is that they can track your cell phone by gps if the battery is in the phone even if the phone isn’t even turned on.

I would love to write more, but the work day is done so I will have to continue later.  On a great note though despite the weather the next Sactown vs San Jose battle is this weekend so wish me luck.  Man I still have so much more to say too…

    Kungo's Cache Creek Tourney

Last weekend which was going to be the Kungo Reno tournament turned into the Cache Creek tournament.  It was a great event with great company and a wonderful course.  It was a great weekend and I had to dominate the field with my excellent play (and 34 stroke handicap lol)  The course was a really nice layout and was pretty challenging, though it was made much easier because of the course rule that if you hit your ball into what will soon be a marsh and can find your ball, then you get to walk in and get it and can take lateral drop without penalty from the spot that you found your ball.  Now I didn't get hooked up by this as much as people would have thought, I think I only saved about 3 or 4 strokes from this.  I will say that my ball was a soldier, there was at least three times, two on one hole that I should have lost my ball, but due to some fortunate bounces my ball happened to have despite the Hater-aid that Tac was trying to give it.  So being that I was able to go through the round without losing a ball which is usually my downfall, I shot an unadjusted 99.

My group was fun to play with and I thought we all played reasonably well, and we talked about it, since we were all really high handicaps we were able to swing freely and play really relaxed since most of the time double bogey meant par for us anyways, so confidence was high and we just played good relaxed golf and I think it showed for the most part except for Huan who is prone to a lot of F bombs and club throws which were pretty entertaining.  But all in all it was a great day of golf, but I guess winning will always make you feel that way  anyways no pictures for this one, but here are the Net results, handicaps listed by the players:

Anyways it was great seeing everybody, and congrats to Leland for taking second place, and Unsmizzy for taking third.  I had a great time though I found that what was missed most was the being able to hang out and shoot the shit with everyone after the round and the shit talking about the upcoming round, and the drinking that usually goes with it.  We had the buffet at CC and it was great, though with no golf the next day it just wasn't the same.  THOUGH the next Sactown vs. San Jo tourney email just came out so end of Sept., early Oct. it will be own and crackin

    Happy 4th

Wow what a great and long weekend.  So the weekend stared off on a good note, went golfing and Robby, Tak and I had to put it down on Dabu, Debo, and Camel.  We played in a 9 hole 3 man scramble with a birdie and a bogey to shoot even par.  They shot 2 over though they double bogeyed the first hole and made par on every following hole.  So if Camel didn't get in Debo's dome we could have been tied.  On another note from Camel, he seems to think that it is part of playing head games and not just a blatant show of dishonesty to lie about your score.  He seems to think that knowing the score of the other team througout the match has no impact on how the your team is going to play.  He doesn't think you would play the last hole differently if you thought you were either one stroke up or one stroke down.  I gave him a scenario about basketball and being down by 3 points with less then 5 seconds left in the game and whether he just shoot the open two if he had it or dribble out to the 3 point line, and he said he would dribble out to the 3 point line and shoot for the time instead of just losing, and he didn't understand that the same would be true in golf if you needed a birdie to tie or a bogey would win, but he wasn't able to grasp the concept.  Actually I think he was after some explaining, but since he can never admit that he is wrong, and is never at fault with anything, I think he just tried to play dumb and pretend like he didn't get it.  Though I guess it is possible that he really could be that clueless, I highly doubt it.  After golf I hung out at home, played some Dota and watched Ghost and Debo talk shit about Magic, and finished reading most of The Prisoner of Azkaban.  Got to bed around 5:30.

So on Friday, I was a Scanty.  I think I woke up around 3:00 then Tunny came over and I had to kick his ass at some Magic, though my Treefolk deck got smacked up and I was pretty bitter about that.  My new goblin deck won so that was good, and my newly changed Astral Slide deck made a pretty big Country Side Crusher which I was also proud of..  After that we went to Leigh Ann's place and had great food and a lot of fun hanging out with Leigh Ann and her family.  After the party, I took Tunny home and we stayed at his place for a bit and played Rock Band.  Rock Band is a lot of fun, though I suck at it, I did pretty good on all the songs on easy level, and went to Medium and was doing alright, until we did the second hardest song and I got my ass handed to me.  Tunny had to bring me back to life twice but I did make it through the song so I was happy with that.  It makes me really want to get Rock Band, though with my Xbox 360 broken, and with the idea that I will be purchasing a house in the next few months it makes it would have to be a real spontaneous purchase.

So I was up at 8:00 AM on Saturday and got with Leigh Ann and she drove us to Tunny's place and we hit the American River Bike Trail at the start and rode to the 13.5 mile marker and back for a nice 27 mile ride.  Now I will have to say that Leigh Ann flies on her bike, Tunny is probably faster, but he hung back so we could talk about shit since I am slow.  After that I played some Emperor games with Tak, Bob, Camel, Dabu, Ghost, and Kato.  There were some pretty good games, and some not so good games.  One game I got totally killed because I was playing Ravegor Affinity, and Ghost puts down a second turn Karn and kills all my land and it is GG me.  My type 1 fun decks were getting shredded, but it was good to see my type 2 decks run through the wings and make the other emperor have to send all his support to my side.

Yesterday I played in a Magic Online sealded deck tourney and I didn't like my deck when I built it, but having not played the set before, I didn't know what to expect, and it turns out that my deck had really good tempo and was really fast for the format.  I was going good, but got stomped in round 2, but I won the last 3 matches for a 4-1 record that got my 4th place in the tournament and 11 packs.  After that I finished the third Harry Potter book.  So now it is onto the 4th Harry Potter book, and maybe get in a free draft tonight.

    I can't feel my legs

So I picked today to be the first day I rode my bike to work.  With this crazy wind going on, and that the wind is directly in my face riding in, it took me longer then I expected, and as stated above, now I can't feel my legs   Man I had no idea how out of shape I am.  My boss did say that I did pick the worst day of the year to ride to work.  I should be flying home though with the strong tail wind

On a happier note, this weekend we are off to LA to play in the Tiger's tournament again.  Should be fun and interesting to see how Kato does, since he is getting his cast off today.  Universal Studio's should be fun, and there will probably be a trip to Hawaiian Garden's, and maybe a club.

On a different note  Magic online has sucked for me, got beat in my last two drafts, after winning the previous two, but I did manage to pick up a Bitterblossom in the last one.  I have also found that my Dota team is consistently either the best of the worst, or the worst of the best depending on how you look at it.  We always have a really good regular season record, and always get destroyed in the first round of the playoffs.  Oh well such is the life of a gamer who doesn't dedicate his life to gaming.

Tragic story, I have no idea what I would have done if this happened to me.  So a friend of mine, has that planned this huge party for when he passed the bar exam, and invited all of his friends and family and bought all kinds of drinks and food and stuff for about 40 people only to find out that he didn't pass...He decided to make it a birthday party, but I don't know if I could face everyone like that, but I guess you can't run from it forever.  Still I don't know how he built up the fortitude to do that so early.  My friend (who passed the bar) said it was also really uncomfortable because everyone else at the party that took the bar passed it, so his dad asked each person how they did, and commented that they must be the smart one at the party.  Now I have been known to make back handed sarcastic comments at opportune times, but not counting the fact that it was his father, that is just flat out mean.  Anyways this friend of mine has been to busy "Lawyering" to hang out so when I do see him, it is always good to hear his stories, plus since he is working with Law, and I am working on Legislative stuff, we have work stuff to compare.

WTF the wind has shifted on me since this morning, guess it is going to be a tough ride home too...Anyways enjoy your Holiday weekend everyone
