So the long awaited battle between Kennedy High and Linbrook High went down this past weekend. I would like to thank EZ for setting everything up, Bob for being the Kennedy captain, Robby for getting the team shirts, and everyone else that was out there for providing a weekend of great competitive golf. Oh yeah if you are on Team Linbrook and don’t like your nickname, they came from EZ. Plus I have to be Wimpy so you guys can live with it anyways. Here is a group picture of the playaz:
For my first round Ace and I played against EZ and Demuro. Ace and EZ were playing like shit in the front and I was playing pretty good for me. We were able to weather the storm until Ace started to find his game, and there was some controversy (EZ was trying to cheat again like he did at Tilden Park with Tac) at the end, but in the end result is we won 1 up. I think if we play that match up again we win more convincingly, but I don’t contribute nearly as much. Though it is hard to say cause EZ never really found his game that round either and things would have been different if the MAN that is EZ came out to play. The highlight of that round had to be this MONSTER whiff by Demuro, and the reaction that he and EZ had right after it happened. Here are the results of Round 1

Second round I played with Robby against Da Wanga and Sizzle. We entered this round as heavy underdogs so Robby told me to just go out there and play and have fun because there were no expectations on us. Now I didn’t do shit the whole front 9 but, Robby played well and basically kept us in the Scramble and we were only down 1 hole (if I had contributed anything we probably could have had a 2 hole lead) going into the alternate shot. Not bad but we needed a big lead there to stand a chance because we were supposed to get crushed in the alternate shot holes. As it turns out, that is where we did our damage. Robby had a perfect game plan to where I just hit shots I know I can make, and with his all around balanced game he will take care of the rest. I somehow managed to find my stroke at the perfect time, though I didn’t make any amazing shots I didn’t make any mistakes either. Robby and I worked very well together. I never screwed him, and he always put me in position to hit the shots that are to the strength of my game. I would say that we played a near flawless back 9. We ended up winning 2-1. Now if we were to do that again, I am sure that they beat us. I think they thought that they could coast in the beginning and I would end of killing us on the back 9. I made all the shots I needed to make on the back when it counted, but all credit goes to Robby for the mental confidence boost and the perfect game plan.

After the second round we were talking and thought we figured we would need 7 of the 10 matches to win the tournament, and after looking at the match-ups we thought if things played out well, we could win 7, lose 2, and one was up in the air. If you wanted to know who we thought was going to win and lose, you had to be there to hear it. In any event we went to bed feeling pretty confident about Sunday.
We got to Rio Vista for the third round at about 7:40 and it was freezing and the wind was awful. It was apparent that the Bay Area guys were more prepared for the cold and windy conditions then the Sactown guys who showed up in shorts and polo shirts with no jackets or windbreakers. It was a very scary experience watching Ace’s tee shot get caught in the wind and take a straight dive to the left. Though I would say it turned out to be a beautiful day. As the day went on the sun came out and it got warmer, and the wind died down so there were very good golfing conditions out there. Well except for the big muddy area that TsujiC drove into and got us stuck for about 10 minutes. In my group Tac shot a very good round and was very proud of himself coming into the club house making the proclamation that the match was over 4 holes ago. Now I am sure N8tron is going to want a rematch. In my match I won the first two holes and managed to hold it for the most part and made it through the front with 2 hole lead. I feel very fortunate in this round because despite my terrible tee shots, TsujiC kept me in the holes with some penalties. Down the back stretch he put his game together and tied it up on the 15th hole. On 16 I made a 12 foot put to tie the hole and not give up the lead for the first time in the match. On 17 Tsuj skulls his ball right in front of the tee box, but it forever and ends up about 170 yards down the fairway about 10 yards from the green. So this put a lot of pressure on me to make a good shot. I hit a 7-iron to about 20 feet and made a good put while Tsuj hit a bad chip and conceded the hole. So I am up one going into 18. On 18 we both hit good tee shots, but I duff me second about 30 yards up. Tsuj hits his second a little short and to the right rough, so I go up and hit my 3rd right at the pin about 10 yards short of the green. Now I get to march up the 18th fairway to the sarcastic MVP chants from the gallery. I also get to hear the friendly murmurs of Robby (dick) trying to bet against me getting up and down. From there I get down in two and Tsuj gets down in three so we tie the hole and I win the match 1 up. Shot of the tournament, The Fucking Wanger holes out from 130 yards out on 18 to beat Robby 1 up. Good shit nice ball Wanger you da man. Here are the results from Sunday:

For the most part the matches were close and I think everyone had a lot of fun, and there are talks of another event in March. But since I got this in my email
So the shit talking has begun and we need to man up and get our cup back. I am thinking that the October battle sounds a little more interesting to people, that and I got called out by TsujiC for a rematch. I know Debo wants a rematch with Demuro, N8tron really wants another crack at the Ta Ta Licker, the Robby-Wanger love affair is now stronger than ever, Whitey feels like he chocked it up against the chump he was playing, and Shoulder wants another crack at Sizzle, and Bob didn’t feel like he put forth his best game on Sunday.
All in all it was a great event and I had a lot of fun playing with everyone. See you guys in October.
Oh and here is a classic golfing moment:
